Manchester United fans were treated to a home win on Sunday afternoon and will immediately have drawn attention to Ruben Amorim’s last match at Sporting.

The Ruud van Nistelrooy era came to an end on Sunday afternoon Manchester United defeated Leicester City 3-0 Old Trafford.

Since then, Van Nistelrooy has taken on interim leadership Erik ten Hag was fired by United in October.

The Dutchman signed off with a win, beating Leicester 3-0 as Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho found the net.

An own goal also helped United win Van Nistelrooy experiences an emotional moment with the United fans.

Attention now turns to the next manager United have already confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim as head coach.

How Sporting’s players reacted to the final goal under Ruben Amorim

The deal for Amorim allowed him to continue leading Sporting until the international break.

That means Sunday’s visit to Braga – ironically Amorim’s former club – was the 39-year-old’s last game in charge of Sporting.

Amorim signed off in style as Sporting recorded a 4-2 victory, but only after a real battle.

Sporting trailed 2-0 at halftime and were in danger of losing their unbeaten start to the season.

However, Sporting went into turmoil in the second half, with Hidemasa Morita and Morten Hjulmand leveling the score before Conrad Harder scored twice in the closing stages to seal a 4–2 win.

This was quite a comeback for Amorim and his players showed how much it meant to them when their boss left for Manchester.

Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell traveled to Braga for the match and showed how Sporting players ran straight to the bench to swarm Amorim and celebrate their latest goal under him.

V Sports in Portugal, their footage also showed on YouTube, with Amorim seemingly in tears as his Sporting team and staff crowded around him.

Ruben Amorim admits Sporting star is ‘angry’ with him

The moment was huge for Amorim and Sporting and the outpouring of emotion only shows the bond he has built with his Sporting stars.

Amorim is now waving goodbye to Sporting, but knows he has upset one of his star players along the way.

Amorim told it More Futebol that playmaker Pedro Goncalves – also known as ‘Pote’ – is a ‘bit angry’ with him.

Goncalves cried at Amorim’s last match in charge against the United boss, admitting it was ‘really difficult’ for him to see Goncalves so upset.

“I had already resigned and when you win it is the players that matter,” Amorim said. “They were the ones who turned the game around.”

“It was harder for me to see Pote cry and leave. It’s not the first time. It’s very difficult for me, I know Pote is a bit angry with me because it was very difficult. In the end, everyone thought it was important to win. No doubt they will have a great coach,” he added.

The pair may yet reunite at United amid early speculation over Amorim’s transfer plans.

TEAMtalk report that Amorim has already asked United to sign Goncalves, with a deal certainly more likely for next summer.

Amorim has remained coy about a potential deal for Goncalves but it’s clear they had quite a connection in Lisbon.

Goncalves is a name to keep a close eye on and perhaps following Amorim to United is just what he needs to see his boss go.
